Our Story

Amy and I love camping, but we have not had the opportunity to do much of it since before we married in 2017. And while we always said we wanted a camper (travel trailer), the cost, upkeep, and storage was just something we were never really in a position to seriously consider. Add to the mix a highly-anxious hound dog and sixteen-year old daughter who view camping as one of the most abhorrent of experiences -- the stars never truly aligned.

Christmas 2019 was to be a dream-come-true vacation -- Sydney was surprised to learn that we had airfare, hotel, and park tickets to Disney World in Orlando scheduled for March 18-26. The excitement mounted all through January, February, the second week of March...then COVID.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to what I call a Great Awakening of how we live, work, and socialize. From Zoom gatherings to socially-distanced everything else, it is fair to say many Americans are relearning what it means to exist and thrive in today's world. Such could not be further from the truth for us, as well. I grudgingly transitioned to working close to full-time from home. Even though I work in State Emergency Management, I am able to do most of my work outside of our State Emergency Operations Center now;  Amy's job -- not so much.  As a Registered Nurse at a major university hospital 's intensive care unit, Amy treats COVID-positive patients and is at high-risk for infection. That said, the stresses of being in close proximity to strangers certainly caused Amy and I to rethink our summer vacation plans. Needless to say, Disney is canceled and we needed to figure out how to enjoy the summer under the continued risk of infections. So, we decided to purchase a camper.

On June 13, 2020 Amy and I spent an entire day at a Camping World in Roscoe, Illinois and left (literally seven hours later) with a brand-new Jayco Travel Trailer. I had never towed anything in my life, nor had Amy. Complete novices to the camper lifestyle, we thought it would be neat to document the first year of this experience and provide friends and family a travel blog, of sorts. After all, Facebook just doesn't seem to be the most appropriate place for the photos and commentary we intend to provide. So, we'll give this a go and hope you find the anecdotes amusing. My intent is, at the very least, to use this site as a platform to continue to improve my narrative and expository writing for others to enjoy. Moving forward, the site will be a work-in-progress and I'll update as often as I can.
